Five Star Technologies Introduces Uniformly Dispersed, Ultrafine-line Printable Inks At IMI Show
New Products Will Enable Next Generation Flat Panel Displays, Solar Grids, Sensors and RFID
Cleveland, Ohio. October 20, 2006. Five Star Technologies, Inc.
announced today that it has introduced a new family of printable
ink products to the 5th
Annual Printable Electronics and Displays Conference & Trade Fair of the Information Management Institute.
The initial ink offering will be a silver-based product; future developments
target inks containing indium tin oxide (ITO), copper and carbon
fillers.
Five Star presently offers a line of specialty dispersions that
deliver enhanced stability and unparalleled performance for precious
metal processing, chip packaging, ceramic components and thick film
pastes.
"Customers tell us that Five Star's ability to deliver
inks with the same uniform particle dispersion and stable rheology
seen in Five Star dispersions will eliminate one of their major development
and production bottlenecks," says Tim Fahey, vice president
of business development for Five Star. "Five Star inks will
enable them to maintain fine circuit features reproducibly and economically.
Tests
performed in cooperation with printing system manufacturers have
demonstrated the ability of Five Star silver ink to work in conventional
ink jet printing lines. "Five Star's proprietary
Particle Management Technology exerts complete top side control,"
says Fahey. "That enables us to provide customers with highly-filled
inks that both eliminate agglomerations and reduce particles to their
primary particle size. Such uniform, small-particle inks create the
conditions for stable, low-viscosity rheologies–-allowing print
dispensers to function smoothly without clogging and to reproducibly
lay down accurate circuit lines."
"Our customers and we view this next generation of inks as
a potential enabling technology for future generations of electronics
that require finer, more precise lines," notes Fahey. "By
offering a process that delivers uniform, stable dispersions of particles,
ranging in size from a few microns down to a few nanometers, Five
Star opens a pathway to much lighter-weight, smaller end products.
By using conventionally produced silver powders to achieve these
size nodes, Five Star opens a pathway to much lower production costs.
And by providing the industry with an additive process, Five Star
opens a pathway to more environmentally sensitive production."
