Precious Metal Powder Processing
Post processing of as-precipitated metal powders is critical to achieving
desired end-use performance and currently requires numerous process stages.
Five Star’s
dispersion technology eliminates the need for subsequent processing steps and
results in previously unattainable size distributions, increased surface areas
and tap densities as well as reduced surface impurity levels.
In addition, this
process can control the top size or largest particle size limits that will
enable use in demanding ink, paste and filled organic systems whether the system
is based on aqueous or solvent-type mediums.
The ability to tailor the particle
size and related distributions allows the end user to develop value-added products
that can consistently attain well-defined features using a variety of deposition
methods such as screen printing, ink jet printing, syringe dispensing, etc.
This is also attributed to the reproducibility and rheological stability of
the resultant dispersions, which relates directly to yield improvements in
the end products.
Numerous examples exist whereby the Five Star process has
transitioned typically low-cost metal powders into high value-added product,
delivering performance that is typically only attainable by far more expensive
processes. The current focus and expertise relates primarily to silver (Ag)
materials, although similar results can be accomplished with other precious
and base metal materials.
